Where the Pipeline Begins

dafdsgThis month we look at the Talent Pipeline across Central Florida. That pipeline however, doesn’t begin with college freshmen. Just like the mighty Mississippi starts at an obscure lake in northern Minnesota, the headwaters of the Talent Pipeline are preschoolers and it is built with a scope and sequence that, like a spiral staircase, covers mankind’s body of knowledge with ever increasing complexity and lays the foundation for a lifetime of educational growth opportunities. Few are more influential in that process than Barbara Jenkins.

My Career:

“I always loved school and since 1st grade wanted to teach. I was later attracted to making positive things happen for more children.”

Exciting Things in the Future:

“Digital Learning. We will provide laptops for all students in state of the art facilities thanks to the half penny sales tax our voters supported. Our new curriculum is better preparing students for college and career readiness. The College Board and Khan Academy Partnership is exciting, as we witness students ‘working to become smarter.’” [The Khan Academy is a highly respected digital educational organization that is helping students prepare for SAT tests through a free online platform].

The Greatest Challenge:

Homeless families and poverty that impacts the lives of our children is our greatest challenge.

Message Everyone Should Know and Understand:

OCPS is recognized nationally for providing a high quality education and efficient operations. We are good stewards of resources and committed to our children. With the support and involvement of families and the community, our teachers are leading 200,000 students to success.
