Emily Leon is a Diversity Specialist for the Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC), the 14th-largest municipal utility in the United States. Emily is responsible for ensuring OUC has access to a diverse, inclusive candidate pool, as the utility is committed to hiring employees who represent the entirety of its service territory well into the future. Emily cultivates partnerships with a variety of chambers, groups and universities, to recruit employees from a wide array of ethnic, social and personal backgrounds.
Emily takes a special interest in organizing and implementing OUC’s Emerging Student Program, which aims to provide internship opportunities, specialized experience and professional development to college students with study focuses ranging from marketing and communications to electrical engineering.
On behalf of OUC, Emily serves on the board of directors for the Central Florida Disability Chamber of Commerce, which provides information and education on business creation and growth, designed for the needs of people with disabilities. For the chamber, she assists with its Veterans Business Initiative and the Young Entrepreneur Education Program (YEP).
Prior to joining OUC, Emily – who recently became a Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) – worked in human resources for Orlando Health and the University of Central Florida (UCF) Department of Education. She is a proud graduate of UCF, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in psychology. She continues to be an active member within her sorority, Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc., where she mentors college females as they ready themselves to prosper in the workforce.
