TITLE: Managing Director
YEARS AT COMPANY: 28
GT USA, the historic U.S. venture created in 2014 by privately-owned port management leader Gulftainer, opened its headquarters at Port Canaveral this spring. Capitalizing on a strong international reputation, Gulftainer signed a 35-year agreement to operate Canaveral Cargo Terminal, investing $100 million in infrastructure, equipment and a local workforce.
Peter Richards, managing director of Gulftainer Group, is the chief executive overseeing the U.S enterprise. Richards, a qualified Master Mariner with a diploma in Nautical Science, has 12 years of seagoing experience and 28 years managing and operating port and container terminals. In his current position at Gulftainer since 2006, he has helped diversify the company from a port operator to a comprehensive logistics supplier with a presence in the Middle East, Brazil, Turkey and the United States.
Gulftainer has recorded consistent growth over the past decade and received industry awards for exceptional performance in terminal management and efficiency. The expansion is part of the company’s strategic vision to increase its global portfolio and triple its throughput by 2020.
“We have created strong partnerships around the world, developing long-term business ties with global shipping lines that value high productivity and world-class service,” Richards said. “GT USA’s goal is to deliver those competencies to usher in a new era of trade for Central Florida.”
