An exciting new era in eye and vision care is dawning in the Lake Nona area. Medical City Eye Center – helmed by Central Florida’s premier cataract surgeon, Dr. Rafael Trespalacios – has brought powerful technologies, expertise in vision care, and some of the most skilled, knowledgeable, and compassionate eye physicians and surgeons in the field to the region.
An example of this expertise occurred almost two years ago when Dr. Trespalacios became the first doctor in Central Florida – and only the fifth in the world – to perform a laser-enabled keratoplasty, otherwise known as a bladeless corneal transplant, a surgical procedure that replaces the recipient’s cornea with one from a donor.
Better Technology, Better Care
Dr. Trespalacios and his practice have a long list of “firsts” for Central Florida. In addition to being one of the first surgeons in the world to perform a bladeless laser corneal transplant, he is also the first and most experienced surgeon fully-credentialed and prepared to implant the iStent micro glaucoma device, the world’s smallest medical device. He is also the first to introduce the CataLāze option to Central Florida, which includes a new intraoperative laser-guided positioning system for the most precise cataract surgical outcomes available.
A Reputation for Excellence
Dr. Trespalacios, known as “Dr. Tres” by his patients and team, completed his bachelor of science in biology and microbiology at UCF, attended the University of South Florida School of Medicine, and went on to become a board-certified ophthalmologist with distinctions throughout his medical/surgical training, which includes the world-renowned Price Vision Group and Cornea Research Foundation of America.
Dr. Tres became established as a consultative ophthalmologist and later as the medical director at The Brevard Eye Center. There, he earned a reputation for excellence and was selected by respected colleagues in the field of cataract and LASIK surgery as one of the “Best Doctors” in the country. He is also presently an associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine. With the dedication and support of thousands of visually restored patients behind him, he and his team have brought his formula for excellence to the community that helped start his career.
“Our aim is to heal and whenever possible, cure or fix your eyes, and in the process help you ‘fix your eyes’ on what really matters most in life,” said Dr. Tres. “Our practice offers not just straightforward Lasik, cataracts, glasses, and contact lenses, but we also treat disease.”
