It’s no surprise that Dave Pitt chose a career in sports marketing given the collaborative and team-oriented values that dictate his professional and personal life. He cut his teeth in the sports industry at David Leadbetter Golf Academies where he focused on business development, which allowed him to exercise his passion for sports and business acumen in a very entrepreneurial and hands-on environment. From there, he moved into partnership development with the Orlando Magic, creating and enhancing corporate partnership programs for the basketball franchise.

“It was always a dream of mine to work for a sports organization,” says Pitt. “After growing up playing sports, I was familiar with the team mentality and work ethic and knew I could translate that well into the business world.”

However, it wasn’t until Pitt started his studies at Rollins College that he realized how well his fervor for both sports and business went hand in hand. After earning his BA in International Business and playing Division II soccer, Pitt decided to pursue his MBA in Marketing at Rollins College Crummer Graduate School of Business. “Knowing Crummer’s reputation for providing real-world experience in an intimate classroom environment, I knew it was the route I wanted to take,” says Pitt. And in the 10 years since graduating from Rollins and Crummer, Pitt says it continues to pay off: “The value of an MBA comes in the foundation, training, and ability to learn more effectively and proactively as you continue your career.”

Pitt serves as Director of Partnership Sales with the Golden State Warriors, a team that competed in the recent NBA Finals and was named “2016 Sports Team of the Year” by Sports Business Journal. Building what he feels is one of the best front offices in professional sports, Pitt’s role is to create long term, strategic partnerships that allow those partners to tell their story through the Warriors’ voice. “For both our team and our partners, it’s all about getting the right people in the right seats on the bus, and understanding how to work with strengths and weaknesses to foster an environment poised for success.”
