It’s your Goal!

You have to believe it to see it.
At one time, it was said that the human body could not physically run a four-minute mile. Roger Bannister achieved the four-minute mile in 1954, and shortly after that, it was achieved over and over again because people saw that it could be done. People believed it was possible only after seeing it happen. Today, a sub-four minute mile is the standard to even qualify for the Olympics. Bannister believed before seeing.
What Are Your Real Goals?
Do you know how to reach your goals? If you answered “yes,” then you have probably set the wrong type of goals. A goal is something that you have never done before. A goal is designed to make you grow and draw something out of yourself that you didn’t realize was even there.
What do you really want? Here is a short exercise that I practice with myself and my clients. Just imagine that you have all the resources that you will ever need and you can have anything you want. Now, ask yourself: ‘What would you start moving towards and what do you really desire?’ Do not worry about how this will happen or if it is even possible. Just come to the answer of what it is that you really want. The average person’s mind is so bogged down with what they perceive as limitations that they never make it to the goals they have in mind for themselves. Do this exercise and your answer should resemble a fantasy.
How do you get what you want? Quick progress is what we all want for whatever it is we are going after. However, why is it that we cannot grow at the rate of progression that is favorable to keep us motivated and drive us closer to the goals we set? The answer is that we have to truly believe it’s possible! If we do not tap into our belief system and find out what it is that we believe then we will be running aimlessly. If we are approaching a goal that we do not believe is possible, our minds will subconsciously abandon it and the progression will slowly die. On the other hand, if we do in fact believe in the goal, our mind will then begin searching and creating ideas for the path to success.
Some questions to ask about beliefs are:
- Do I have good sound reasons for my beliefs?
- Where did my beliefs come from?
- Would changing my beliefs improve my life?
- How do I change my beliefs?
As you begin to answer these questions, many of the old perspectives will shift, and you will begin to see yourself moving in the right direction. The reality is that our beliefs are based on an evaluation of something. When you start to reevaluate your own situation, the beliefs about that situation will change too.
There are three types of goals and, unfortunately, most people set goals that they have already attained or think they can attain.
> This first type is an A GOAL, which is what you already know how to do.
> Then there are B GOALS, which are what we think we can do.
> Last, there are C GOALS. C goals are what we really want and are typically fantasies that come from our imagination. They do not include a concrete path to achievement. We should focus on C goals only and get emotionally involved with them. With true investment in your C goals, they will become a theory that we will eventually affirm into fact.
Now, affirm your new goal daily in the present tense as if it has already happened. For example, say, “I am so happy and thankful that I now have multiple incomes and a wonderful life full of freedom.”
The bottom line is that if you are going to go for something worthwhile, you are going to have to focus on something you truly want. You will have to adjust your thinking so that you believe that you can do it. These types of drivers come from the inside and how it happens is not as important as believing it can happen. Tell yourself that no circumstance or condition on the outside will dictate how you live, and nothing on the outside can stop you.
You must have two things to accomplish your goals – You must be willing, and you must be able. That’s it!
People without goals are lost and roaming around without a compass. If you do not wake up every day excited about your life, then you do not have the right goals. So ask yourself: ‘What are your fantasy goals?’
