Terry M. Sanks took a road less traveled to begin his legal career. Upon graduating from college, Sanks served active duty as an officer in the U.S. Air Force, working as a space propulsion program manager and later as an electronic combat systems engineer. After Operation Desert Storm, with the Air Force offering incentives to leave, he pursued his aspiration of being a lawyer and went to law school.
Having already earned two engineering degrees, Sanks was a natural fit to become an intellectual property (“IP”) attorney. He was hired by an Orlando firm and mentored by two of the most prominent IP attorneys in Orlando at the time, Jim Beusse and Bob Duckworth.
Today Sanks manages Beusse Wolter Sanks & Maire, PLLC, one of the preeminent intellectual property boutique law firms with offices in Florida and Virginia. Under his leadership, in addition to its growth, his firm has become one of the most gender and ethnically diverse IP law firms in the country.
As a registered patent attorney, Sanks is experienced in all areas of IP law, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, related litigation and related business transactions. He is a leader in developing strategies to best utilize and protect IP rights as his wide-ranging practice includes managing patent and trademark portfolios for Fortune 500 and regional companies. Not limited to the Central Florida area, Sanks has clients that originate from various other localities in Florida, the U.S. and throughout the world.
