Orion is Celebrated for the People Element[By: Sebastian Northside]
The real goal of technology is to make life better…for people. Whether that person is the pilot of one of the world’s most sophisticated fighter aircraft or the technologist who is designing or making one of the plane’s intricate components.
That reality is at the forefront of Orion Technology’s growing reputation and market share. The company that is known for providing the most cutting edge solutions for single-board computers (SBC) and rugged systems manufacturing, is also being recognized for the way they treat their most crucial customers, their own employees.
Recently Orion was acknowledged as one of the Top 100 Best Companies for Working Families. The award, presented by the Orlando Sentinel, highlights Central Florida employers that have a commitment to creating a working environment that goes beyond recognizing the challenges employees face with work and family life, but which actually helps them maintain that crucial balance. The prestigious business award is given to companies which model a clear commitment to employees and their families. Qualities such as workplace flexibility, company leadership, and opportunities for career growth are some of the cultural traits that go into determining which companies will make this coveted list.
In the national and international competition to attract and retain the best and brightest talent, Orion sees their approach as a key component in their strategy. “At Orion, we’ve always been committed to keeping both our customers and employees happy,” Nirav Pandya, the company’s CEO said. “Our philosophy is that creating a positive work environment, rewarding hard work, and giving our employees the freedom to have a healthy work/home balance will help us retain and attract the best team we can.”
It is a combination that also boosts Orion’s ability to deliver products that are unparalleled. “In addition, we believe this environment helps promote creativity and productivity that provides the best results for our customers. We’re honored to receive this award and proud of what it represents,” Pandya added.
From Local to National
Orion was also on the Orlando Business Journal’s 2016 Fast 50 list, which rates the fastest-growing companies in the Central Florida area. But Orion’s accolades are not only local recognitions. Recently, Inc. magazine ranked the company No. 1227 in the 35th annual Inc. 5000 fastest-growing private companies. At the same time Orion was ranked No.14 in Top Engineering firms. Companies we all recognize like Microsoft, Dell, Domino’s Pizza, Pandora, Timberland, LinkedIn, Yelp, Zillow, and many other familiar brands gained their first national exposure as honorees of the Inc. 5000.
The Inc. 5000 are considered the superheroes of the U.S. economy. As Inc. put it, “America’s fastest-growing private companies wield powers like strategy, service, and innovation. We can all thrill to these companies’ amazing exploits–and learn a thing or two about the hard, real work. The list celebrates one of the nation’s most dynamic segments, the independent, scaling small business.”
Reflecting on the recognition Pandya commented, “We have worked very hard to achieve such growth, and it’s definitely the result of a strong partnership among our executive leadership, the hard-working employees of Orion Technologies, and our many valued clients.”
The Orlando based company that specializes in the manufacturing of embedded single board computers (SBC), as well as the design and development of full systems, is one of the fastest-growing companies in Central Florida. Over the past three years, Orion Technologies has experienced a 317 percent increase in sales growth, allowing them to have a great impact on the embedded technologies industry as a whole.
Expanding to Accommodate
So dramatic has been their growth that they had to relocate their headquarters to accommodate their expansion and to sustain their team cohesion. The acquisition of the new space, located in the Central Florida Research Park adjacent to UCF, approximately doubles the size of their previous location and supports not only the growth of Orion, but also the organization’s long-term corporate vision.
“Over the last few years we simply outgrew our available space,” Pandya said. “Our new location gives us the ability to continue providing the highest quality products and services, as well as fast and efficient customer service that our military, industrial, and commercial customers have come to expect from Orion.”
Orion maintains a specialized workforce of engineers and professionals who provide control of the total business process, which goes from the initial customer inquiry, through board design, to shipment of the final product. “Sustaining our well-linked team environment within our headquarters enables us to prioritize the foundational components of a sound business,” Pandya adds, “which I believe includes exceptional customer care and the maintenance of easy-to-work-with professional partnerships.
