Creating a style all your own doesn’t necessarily mean you dress for success every day, ready to turn heads. But it does mean there’s a healthy balance between the silent message your image conveys and the one you’re intending to convey. Since you only have one chance to make a great first impression, putting some thought into your daily dressing routine can come with a big ROI. It doesn’t matter if you’re a stay-at-home mom, a work-from-home woman or a corporate executive. You are missing opportunities if you don’t take this principle to heart. Liking what you see gets a lot easier when you believe you’re worth it.
Here are three quick and easy ways to spruce up your image and take inventory of your wardrobe. Make sure to take what’s in your closet and separate all tops and bottoms to help you see more possible mix-and-match options that may be hiding.
1. Invest in a great, fits perfectly, makes-you-feel-awesome pair of black pants. They should have enough spandex to move comfortably, light enough fabric to wear year-round in Florida, and have a crisp line down the front so that they hang without pulling or tugging.
2. Do you have a classic shift dress, a sharp blouse, a tank AND a short sleeve shirt all in the same color – one that looks fabulous on you?
3. A new blazer – in a bright color! It’s the surefire way to liven up the wardrobe you most likely have full of black, khaki and navy.
One of the chapters in my book, Accessorize to Maximize, shares many examples of how you can invest an extra five minutes a day to create a “Dash out the Door” look with simple makeup techniques and fashion accessories to take every dressing dilemma and make it dynamic. Just by adding a chic scarf, a bling ring and the right lip color guarantees that you’ll be kissing the uglies goodbye and saying hello to a more beautiful you. Anyone can be ordinary, but with a little extra effort, your look can be extraordinary. Take those five minutes — you’re worth it!
